Hautevillers: Chez Poulain, Boulangerie - Patisserie

When we returned from our champagne tasting appointments in Épernay and Reims to Hautevillers we had worked up an appetite (going up and down the stairs of the champagne cellars is a real workout).  We didn't have much time before our appointment at Joseph Desruets so we decided to walk to a boulangerie and patisserie that had been recommended to us, Chez Poulain. 

One of the great beauties that I appreciate of France, is that no matter where you go you're sure to find excellent bread and baked goods.  When we entered we immediately knew we would have trouble narrowing our order down. Everything behind the glass display looked tempting. We decided on French apple tart, a gruyere and broccoli quiche, brie baguette, and a chocolate eclair.   After our final champagne tasting for the day we did indulge in a long walk along Hautevillers narrow streets and through the beautiful park, just to keep everything in check! We stood at a tall table by the window and enjoyed our treats.  We reviewed the Champagne Houses we had already been to and ranked our favorite champagnes.  We carried out our last bites of the meal with us as we made our way to Joseph Desruets.  If you find yourself in Hautevillers top by Chez Poulaine and just go ahead and grab one of everything!
