Notes on August

Notes on August

Our summer of 2026 has been absolutely wonderful. We’ve had family visit and enjoyed all the best of summer in the Hamptons and NYC with them, we’ve spent every morning and evening walking, swimming, or reading and sunning at the beach, we’ve indulged in fresh fruits, herbaceaous salads and seasonal cocktails, spent time with family at their summer cabin, went West for fun shows in Las Vegas and hiking in the stunning Utah desert. Even though we’ve not let a moment of summer joy escape us, somehow stepping into August feels a bit shocking. Our last full month of summer before transitioning back to the scheduled life of the fall season. To be sure that we don’t miss anything that the summer season has left to offer, we’ve made notes on how to enjoy August to the fullest to put an exceptional book end on this summer.

  1. Focus on Wellness

It is such a gift to have one’s health and wellness and there’s something wonderful about the month of August and being intentional with your daily wellness habits so that they seamlessly transition with you into the fall. For us this includes incorporating the following practices each day:

  1. Walk outdoors, every day

  2. Eat a vegan diet focused on plants

  3. Practice yoga daily

  4. Meditate daily

2.

Enjoy August's Best Produce

It’s wonderful to eat seasonally when possible. Fresh produce in its season—particularly if it’s local—is the best time to experience it. Some of our August favorites are fresh peaches, blackberries, basil, heirloom tomatoes, and—of course—corn. Visit a local farmers market. This month we’re making homemade:

  • gazpacho

  • tomato tartine

  • smoky corn salsa

  • peach tart and

  • putting fresh berries and peaches in our morning breakfast bowls. It’s a great way to stay in the summer season and appreciate what nature brings.

3.

Create Summer Memories

For us this means travel—sometimes small weekend trips, day trips into the city, and sometimes somewhere far. We have an upcoming summer trip this month and the best part is that it is bringing us together with family from 3 different states in the US. We love travel because it bonds us with new and exciting experiences. Go somewhere new, even staycations are a great way to enjoy local seasonal favorites through the eyes of a visitor. Other summer memories to make include grilling and backyard barbecues, visit a vineyard, attend a summer carnival, host a Labor Day gathering, enjoy the beach in the moonlight (August Sturgeon Moon peaks August 28th). Get out and experience the season!

4.

Read Books

This is something to do year round but we love summer reading. The feeling of packing our books in the tote to read on the beach, having a book handy to read on the airplane or the drive to NYC, or as summer rain taps on the windows as you stay dry and immersed in book indoors. Right now we’re reading books related to our trip later this month and it’s really enhancing the experience. We suggest a mix of philosophy, fiction, history, just anything you enjoy that expands the mind and the imagination.

So, we venture into a new month full of ideas to make the most of it. What is on your August bucket list?
