NYC Guide: Marea

NYC Guide: Marea

Marea

Address | 240 Central Park S, New York, NY 10019

Today our NYC Guide goes to Central Park south for fine Italian cuisine at the Michelin Star restaurant, Marea. For residents and visitors alike, Central Park South is an area of Manhattan that tends to illicit a lot of nostalgia tied to memories of great experiences in and around Central Park and the landmark hotels and restaurants in the area. Across the street from Central Park, lined with horse drawn carriages and pedi cabs, the location is the starting point for enjoying the romance of Marea.

When you enter the ambiance of Marea is everything you expect for a formal dinning experience. In the evening it is low lit with crisp white table linens. You can expect excellent service with jovial, and knowledgeable servers. There is a full bar and extensive wine menu.

Chef Michael White is well known for making exquisite pastas and seafood. I recommend beginning with a selection of antipasti focused on the seafood of course. The crudos on offer are light and tasty.

For carnivores, the fusilli with octopus and bone marrow is a must to order. My personal favorite—and the go to pasta order for my pescatarian wife—is the Garganelli (bagna cauda, black trumpet mushroom, black truffle).

Linger awhile longer to enjoy an espresso or aperitif and dessert.

Marea is a classic Manhattan dining experience. With excellent food, beverage and service its Michelin Star is well deserved.
