Hamptons Guide: East Hampton
East Hampton is our favorite of the Hamptons Villages. With a variety of restaurants and shops and a beautiful beach, it’s the perfect summer getaway. A few notable mentions not included below. If you’re in the Hamptons with kids, East Hampton Main street has a Dylan’s Candy Bar which is always a fun excursion. Citarella also serves a good breakfast menu (bagels, egg sandwiches, soft shell crab) so you might want to do a little market shopping and breakfast there. That being said, let’s review my favorite eateries.

Mary’s has the best coffee (although I was pleasantly surprised by Tate’s cold brew with oat milk on a recent stop in, it’s worth the trip for a sip!). When we stay in East Hampton we begin each morning with pipping hot Americanos or cold brew. There’s always a line and a great energy at this locals favorite spot where people go for their morning jolt of caffeine before hitting adventure on the high seas. In addition to wonderful coffee, Mary’s offers a variety of breakfast options. From crumbly scones and muffins (the chocolate chip muffin is legendary and available in mini size as well as large) to eggs, wraps, power bowls and smoothies. It’s all made fresh and it’s delicious.

Carissa’s bakery is the spot to go for really excellent bread. Offering fresh baked loaves and pastry’s, Carissa’s is a must do. For breakfast try their avocado toast with fresh tomatoes and cheese (optional) served on a thick slice of rustic bread, it’s the perfect meal. Carissa’s also offers beautiful cakes for your summer celebrations. With gold leaf fruit the rustic layer cakes are beautiful. Enjoy lunch on their outdoor patio with sandwich specials like the vegetarian reuben (made with beets) or the vegetarian eggplant, potato, cauliflower, tahini on a perfect baguette. There are so many delicious options to choose from.

1770 House is an idyllic historical inn and restaurant that has been serving East Hampton for over 200 years. The space of the main dinning room is low lit and intimate with only 12 table tops. It is decorated like a cottage from the past with touches like porcelain plates adorning the walls. This candlelit restaurant makes a perfect romantic evening out, especially when your seated at the corner table in a whisper’s distance from your date. 1770 House also hosts a seasonal outdoor patio for dinning as well as a tavern in the downstairs level. To order. The spicy Montauk Fluke Tartare (Pickled Cucumber, Hijiki, Wasabi Tobiko & Radish) is a must try appetizer. For the mains they offer a variety of tasty fish, beef, lamb and chicken dishes. The meatloaf is famously one of Ina Garten’s favorite dishes. Save some room for dessert and order the Warm Valrhona Chocolate Brownie Marshmallows, Peanuts, Coconut & Graham Cracker Gelato. It’s worth it.

If you’re in the mood for a martini and steak, head over to The Palm at Huntting Inn. The vibe here is really lively and fun. The decor is dark and lodge like making the space feel countryside intimate. You’ll find the restaurant packed with revelers full of life from summer vacation. The wait staff is friendly and the cocktails and steak are good.

For a more low key evening out our favorite restaurant is Sam’s. I’ve mentioned a million times how much I love pizza so Sam’s for a nice large pie really hits a home run. The tavern setting has an old school vibe with a casual atmosphere. They serve pasta dishes as well but we usually stick to a large greek salad and cheese pizza. They also have a lively bar. I skip dessert here because Scoop du jour is right across the street…

It’s not officially summer in the Hamptons until you’ve stood in a long line—with twinkle lights decorating the bushes lining the sidewalk—for ice cream at Scoop du Jour. It’s the perfect dessert on warm summer nights with a cool breeze from the ocean. The flavors aren’t too creative but all the classic favorites are there (mint chip, strawberry, pralines and cream, etc). Remember to bring cash because it’s a cash only spot.
