NYC Pizza Guide: Pizza Suprema

NYC Pizza Guide: Pizza Suprema

It’s no secret I love pizza. Ever since returning to NYC three years ago I have loved nothing more than running around every borough in pursuit of yet another great New York slice. So, let’s talk about it!

For my first post NYC Pizza Guide feature we go to  Pizza Suprema. Honestly, I was running errands around midtown and was craving a slice. Unsure where to go I checked out some recommendations and reviews for pizza joints near me and Pizza Suprema sounded like something you have to try and I'm glad I did. Pizza Suprema is near the DMV and with both my wife and myself needing to renew licenses and go through name changes etc. we’ve made a few visits. Each time we arrive early and with the ever long lines we always look forward to when 11 a.m. rolls around and while one of us patiently waits in line the other goes and grabs a few delicious slices to bring back. It makes the wait so much more endurable.

Since this was a last minute decision you'll find my video review doesn't have the most planning behind it but when the opportunity arises you grab it! The video review is worth a watch to see some of the great slices Pizza Suprema offers.

One thing that makes Pizza Suprema a great place to grab a slice is the variety of slices that they have to offer. From more traditional pies like margherita to more modern slices with honey and truffle oil drizzle they really have a nice selection.

The classic slice has a nice crust because the oven has good bottom heat.  The top heat of the oven is lower and so the crust is a little softer.  It's a great texture that's unique from other pizzerias. Unfortunately for slices with wetter ingredients, like the hot honey, the crust didn't hold so well. The hot honey sauce was watered down a little too much making it too soggy. The concept was good, the execution needs some assistance.

The red sauce was nicely rounded. Not too sweet, not too tart. You could taste it but it didn't take over flavor of the slice. I had the red sauce on the grandma slice, because who doesn't like something named after everyone's favorite family member?!  The slice itself was a little small and had margherita toppings so you might just go ahead and order a regular margherita slice.

I really enjoyed the garlic white slice.  It had a great crust and the dollops of ricotta were nice and creamy and not grainy at all.  This is a slice I would definitely order again.
