Summer in the Hamptons: A Birthday Celebration at Camp Rubirosa

Summer in the Hamptons: A Birthday Celebration at Camp Rubirosa

Summer in the Hamptons is synonymous with long beach days, farm stand stops, sunset cocktails, and gathering around a table with family and friends. This June, we were fortunate to enjoy all of the above as family traveled from Seattle to spend a week with us on the East End. With both Lynette and Sabrina celebrating June birthdays, the visit provided the perfect excuse for a special evening out—one that captured everything we love about summer in the Hamptons.

For our birthday dinner, we chose Camp Rubirosa, one of the newest additions to the Hamptons dining scene and a restaurant that has quickly become known for its relaxed atmosphere, lively outdoor spaces, and menu that thoughtfully accommodates a variety of dietary preferences. Finding a restaurant that can comfortably satisfy vegan, gluten-free, and traditional diners is no small feat, especially when dining with a larger group. Camp Rubirosa delivered on all fronts.

The evening began exactly how a Hamptons summer celebration should: outdoors, with drinks in hand and nowhere to rush off to.

As golden hour settled over the property, we gathered at the outdoor bar before dinner. The setting immediately set the tone for the night. Friends chatted around cocktail tables while families filtered in for dinner. The atmosphere felt energetic without being overwhelming, creating that effortless balance that defines the best Hamptons summer evenings.

Our group sampled a little bit of everything from the drink menu. Spritzes arrived sparkling and refreshing, perfect for a warm June evening. Some opted for classic glasses of wine while others enjoyed expertly crafted Negronis. Mocktails provided festive options for those skipping alcohol, ensuring everyone felt included in the celebration. The beauty of starting the evening at the bar wasn't simply the drinks—it was having the opportunity to slow down, catch up, and savor the moment before dinner.

One of the things that makes hosting visitors in the Hamptons so special is watching them experience the unique rhythm of East End summer life. Family visiting from Seattle quickly embraced the slower pace. Conversations drifted from beach plans and local recommendations to birthday memories and future adventures. The warm evening air, the sounds of laughter around us, and the anticipation of dinner created the kind of memory that becomes synonymous with summer itself.

When our table was ready, we were escorted to the outdoor patio, arguably one of the most appealing features of Camp Rubirosa during the summer season. Dining al fresco is practically a requirement during June, July, and August in the Hamptons, and the patio offered exactly the atmosphere we were hoping for.

Surrounded by lush landscaping and the buzz of fellow diners enjoying the season, the space felt festive without being formal. It captured that relaxed sophistication that makes Hamptons dining so appealing. Whether you're celebrating a birthday, hosting out-of-town guests, or simply enjoying a Friday night dinner after a day at the beach, the setting encourages guests to linger.

As menus were passed around, one thing became immediately apparent: everyone would be able to find something they loved.

For our table, we started with arugula salad to share. Light, fresh, and bright, it was the perfect beginning to a meal centered around pizza. The peppery greens provided a refreshing contrast to the richer dishes that would follow, and sharing plates encouraged the communal style of dining that makes celebrations feel special.

The true highlight of the evening, however, was the pizza selection.

One of the challenges when dining with a group that includes both vegan and gluten-free guests is ensuring everyone has meaningful options rather than simply settling for substitutions. Camp Rubirosa excelled in this regard. The menu allowed us to order a variety of pizzas that catered to different dietary needs without making anyone feel like an afterthought.

Classic pizzas satisfied those craving traditional flavors and familiar favorites. Vegan options ensured that plant-based diners could fully participate in the experience rather than piecing together side dishes. Gluten-free crusts provided additional flexibility, allowing guests with dietary restrictions to enjoy pizza alongside everyone else.

Soon the table was filled with an assortment of pies, each one adding something different to the meal. Slices were passed around, recommendations exchanged, and everyone sampled a little bit of everything. The result was exactly what you hope for when dining with family: a table where every guest feels accommodated and excited about the food in front of them.

Perhaps the best compliment we can give Camp Rubirosa is that dietary preferences faded into the background. No one focused on what they couldn't eat. Instead, the conversation centered on favorite slices, unexpected flavor combinations, and deciding which pizza deserved a second piece.

For those of us who frequently seek vegan dining options in the Hamptons, experiences like this stand out. While plant-based dining has become increasingly accessible, finding restaurants that integrate vegan choices naturally into a broader menu remains especially valuable when dining with mixed groups. Camp Rubirosa strikes that balance beautifully.

Likewise, gluten-free diners often face limited options, particularly when pizza is involved. The availability of gluten-free choices helped ensure everyone could participate fully in the meal without compromise.

As the evening progressed, the patio filled with the unmistakable energy of summer weekends in the Hamptons. Conversations lingered. Glasses were refilled. Guests settled comfortably into the evening rather than rushing through dinner.

Looking around the table, it was difficult not to appreciate how meaningful these moments become. Family visits from across the country don't happen every day. Birthdays serve as reminders to celebrate the people we love. Summer itself feels fleeting, especially in the Hamptons, where the season passes in a blur of beach days, outdoor concerts, farmers markets, and sunset dinners.

Gathering around a table allows us to pause and appreciate it all.

By the end of the evening, our group left happy, full, and already discussing future visits. The combination of excellent food, thoughtful dietary accommodations, a beautiful outdoor setting, and warm hospitality made Camp Rubirosa an ideal choice for our birthday celebration.

For visitors planning a summer trip to the Hamptons, Camp Rubirosa is worth adding to your dining list. Whether you're traveling with family, celebrating a special occasion, or simply looking for a restaurant that offers something for everyone, it delivers the relaxed yet elevated experience that defines East End summer dining.

As for our birthday celebration, we couldn't have asked for a better evening. Surrounded by family, enjoying delicious food, sipping cocktails under the June sky, and embracing the simple pleasures of summer in the Hamptons—it was exactly the kind of night we hope to remember long after the season ends.

After all, the best Hamptons memories aren't necessarily the grandest ones. Often, they're the evenings spent around a table with people you love, sharing good food and good conversation while summer unfolds around you.

And for us, Camp Rubirosa provided the perfect setting for exactly that.
