Avo NYC Review: Casual, Healthy Dining with Vegan Options in NoMad

Avo NYC

Address | 245 5th Ave, New York, NY 10016 (multiple locations)

Avo is a casual dining spot in New York City offering a menu centered on fresh ingredients, wholesome meals, and convenient options for people looking for something a little more nourishing than traditional fast food. With a selection of bowls, salads, and other customizable dishes, it's the kind of place that appeals to diners who want a quick meal without sacrificing quality. For those of us who eat vegan, having plant-based options available makes choosing where to eat in NYC that much easier, particularly when dining with others who may have different dietary preferences.

During our latest visit to Manhattan, we were looking for somewhere casual to enjoy brunch in NoMad, and Avo caught our attention as a promising option. We wanted something fast, nutritious, and vegan-friendly, and its menu seemed to check all the boxes. We decided to stop in and see what Avo had to offer.

Avo NYC: Tofu Al Pastor

The Tofu Al Pastor bowl was a great choice for a satisfying vegan brunch at Avo. Made with a base of rice, the bowl featured tofu alongside creamy guacamole, fajita vegetables, fire-roasted corn, and fresh pico de gallo. The combination brought together plenty of contrasting textures and flavors, from the smoky sweetness of the corn to the freshness of the vegetables and the richness of the avocado. The vegan garlic chipotle crema added another layer of flavor, tying everything together with a creamy, savory finish. It's a colorful, well-rounded option for anyone looking for a nutritious, plant-based meal in NYC.

Avo NYC: My Thai

The My Thai salad was another appealing option for a fresh, plant-based meal at Avo. Combining spinach and romaine with tofu, creamy avocado, shredded cabbage, carrots, cilantro, and colorful watermelon radish, this salad offered plenty of variety in every bite. The ginger sesame dressing brought a bright, savory flavor that complemented the fresh vegetables, while the spicy cashews added a satisfying crunch and a little heat. A squeeze of lime brought everything together with a refreshing citrus finish. For anyone looking for a lighter vegan option in NYC that still feels substantial and full of flavor, the My Thai is worth considering.

Overall, we enjoyed our visit to Avo in NoMad and were happy to discover another convenient option for casual, vegan-friendly dining in New York City. When we're out exploring Manhattan, we appreciate finding places where we can enjoy a quick, nutritious meal without having to compromise on flavor or worry about whether there will be suitable plant-based choices on the menu. Avo delivers on that front, with options like the Tofu Al Pastor bowl and My Thai salad offering fresh ingredients, satisfying portions, and plenty of flavor.

We also appreciated that Avo offers a menu that can appeal to a mix of dietary preferences, making it a practical choice when dining with friends or family who may not follow a vegan diet. Its relaxed atmosphere and convenient approach to dining make it particularly well suited to a casual brunch or lunch while spending the day in the city.

Beyond the food, Avo has a nice smoothie menu that caught our attention. We didn't get a chance to try one during this visit, but we're looking forward to returning to sample some of those options on a future trip.

For anyone searching for healthy, plant-based meals in NYC, Avo is worth keeping in mind. Whether you're a committed vegan or simply looking to incorporate more vegetables and plant-based dishes into your routine, it's a welcome addition to the city's casual dining scene. We'll happily keep it on our list for future Manhattan visits!
