Address | 7 E 27th St, New York, NY 10016
New York City is one of those places where choosing the right hotel can make all the difference to a weekend away. Whether you're visiting for the restaurants, museums, shopping, theater, or simply the pleasure of wandering through Manhattan, having a comfortable place to return to at the end of the day is part of the experience. On our latest trip to the city, we decided to stay at The Evelyn Hotel, a boutique hotel in NoMad, one of Manhattan's most interesting neighborhoods.
NoMad, short for North of Madison Square Park, is a great base for exploring New York. Located between Chelsea, Flatiron, and Midtown, the neighborhood offers easy access to some of the city's best-known attractions while retaining a character of its own. Historic architecture, independent cafés, restaurants, cocktail bars, and beautiful streets make it an appealing area to explore on foot.
The Evelyn Hotel has a distinctive boutique identity, making it an interesting option for travelers looking for something beyond a standard chain hotel. Its location also makes it convenient for a short city escape, whether you're planning a weekend of sightseeing or hoping to experience New York more like a local.
In this review, we'll share our experience staying at The Evelyn Hotel NYC, including the rooms, atmosphere, location, and the details that matter when deciding where to stay in Manhattan. We'll also explore the surrounding neighborhood and some of the places worth visiting nearby.
If you're planning a trip to New York and looking for a stylish hotel in a central location, here's a closer look at The Evelyn Hotel and what to consider before booking your stay.
Deluxe One Queen Bed Room at The Evelyn Hotel
We stayed in the Deluxe One Queen Bed room at The Evelyn Hotel and loved the charming design, which feels perfectly suited to the hotel's NoMad location. The room had a lovely boutique-hotel aesthetic, with brass lamps that complemented the neighborhood's historic character and a blush-colored bedspread that added a soft touch to the decor. We also enjoyed the view overlooking NoMad, which gave the room a distinctly New York feel.
The room was on the smaller side, but that's fairly typical for Manhattan hotels, especially in this part of the city. For a short stay, we found it comfortable enough, and the thoughtful design helped make the most of the available space. The bathroom was another highlight, with attractive tilework and plush bathrobes that added a little extra comfort to the experience.
Our main disappointment, however, was the bedding. Both the mattress and pillows felt quite hard, and we had expected a more comfortable night's sleep from a four-star hotel. While mattress preferences are subjective, the bed didn't quite meet our expectations for a property in this category.
We found the service at The Evelyn Hotel to be friendly and responsive throughout our stay. The staff were communicative and quick to bring anything we requested, including champagne flutes, an ice bucket, and extra water. We appreciated not having to wait long for these little extras, which made it easy to settle in and enjoy our time in the room. While the bedding could have been more comfortable, the attentive service helped make our overall experience a pleasant one.
Tusk Bar at the Evelyn Hotel NYC
One of the highlights of our stay was enjoying wine and cocktails at Tusk Bar, the charming bar tucked inside The Evelyn Hotel. Decorated with beautiful flowers and illuminated by soft, low lighting, it had an intimate, inviting atmosphere that felt especially lovely on a rainy autumn afternoon. Through the windows, we could watch the rain falling over the streets of NoMad while sipping our drinks and taking a break from the bustle of Manhattan. It was just the sort of cozy, stylish setting we love discovering in NYC, and a wonderful place to linger over a glass of wine or a well-made cocktail.
