Vegan in the Hamptons: The Bell & Anchor
If you’ve been following us here for a while, you know how much we love the ambiance at The Bell & Anchor. Nestled on the waterfront in Sag Harbor, it’s the perfect spot for a holiday cocktail, a special family dinner, or just a leisurely evening soaking in the stunning views of the harbor. The interior is elegant yet inviting, with warm lighting, thoughtful décor, and a sense of understated sophistication that makes every visit feel like an occasion.
From the views to the interior to the thoughtfully executed drinks, The Bell & Anchor continues to be a favorite for us in Sag Harbor. It’s the kind of place where every meal and cocktail feels special, making it ideal for celebrations or a memorable night out.
Recently, we had the pleasure of enjoying dinner out with a friend who told us they had seen a vegan lasagna on the menu and we had to try! We couldn’t resist starting with a couple of their expertly crafted cocktails. The Dirty Martini was perfectly balanced—clean, crisp, and exactly what you want from this classic.
We also tried the Oaxaca Old Fashioned, a smoky and rich blend of barrel-aged Reposado tequila, mezcal, orange bitters, and agave. The subtle smokiness of the mezcal paired beautifully with the sweet and citrus notes, creating a cocktail that was both comforting and complex.
The dish that got us in the door on this occassion was the Vegan No-Pasta Lasagna. This is a tasty option for anyone seeking a plant-based twist on a classic comfort dish. Instead of traditional noodles, thinly sliced zucchini and yellow squash create delicate, tender layers that perfectly cradle the rich fillings. Between the vibrant vegetable layers is a luscious cashew ricotta, creamy and slightly nutty, paired with the tangy sweetness of sundried tomato marinara. Each bite offers a harmony of textures and flavors—the softness of the squash, the smooth richness of the ricotta, and the bright, herby notes of basil oil drizzled on top.
The presentation is equally inviting: a golden, slightly caramelized top, dotted with streaks of green basil oil, makes it almost too beautiful to eat—almost. This vegan dish feels indulgent without being heavy, showcasing how thoughtfully prepared plant-based cuisine can satisfy even the most traditional lasagna cravings.
At The Bell & Anchor, this dish stands out as a perfect example of inventive, seasonal cooking in Sag Harbor. Whether you’re a vegan, vegetarian, or simply looking for a lighter, yet flavorful, alternative to classic comfort food, the Vegan No-Pasta Lasagna is a must-try that elevates local dining to something memorable and nourishing.
