EATS: Spicy Guacamole Recipe
A favorite weekend food in my household is spicy guacamole. My wife spent much of her childhood in Southern California and grew up with avocado trees so she loves avocado and she loves spice. She has given me get a ton of praise and positive feedback on this spicy guacamole recipe. I think you’re going to love it too! In the spicy guacamole instructional video below and listed ingredients, I made a serving size for about two/three people. In general I make larger batches of spicy guacamole for Sunday football watch parties, or of course taco night. Depending on what you want/need you can just double the recipe for more. Some general tips for making a good guacamole.
First, find a ripe avocado. You can work with a slightly under ripe avocado but it can be difficult so if you have avocado/s that aren’t quite there, let them sit a day or two more before you make your guacamole. This will ensure that you have the right texture and flavors.
Next tip for great guacamole, pay attention to the level of spice you want. As I’ve mentioned before both my daughter and my wife really love spicy food so we typically take the heat up a bit. If you want to go for spicy, remember to incorporate the seeds of the jalapeño. On the same note, if you want to pull back a little on the heat, you might scrape a few of the seeds out and toss aside. If you’re going for hot, when you’re at the market look for darker jalapeños with lines. They tend to be spicy. Lighter, smooth jalapeños tend to be younger and more mild. Just give it a little thought in advance to get your spicy guacamole at the level you want.
My last tip is not so much about how you make your guacamole but how you serve it. Get creative. Of course, tortilla chips and tacos are a favorite. But remember you can use it as a topping on burgers (veggie, plant, or meat based); as a salad topping; with crudité; or over eggs are just some of the ways I enjoy guacamole.
