BonBon Swedish Candy Co. comes to the Hamptons

BonBon Swedish Candy Co. comes to the Hamptons

BonBon Swedish Candy Co.

Address | 11 Washington St, Sag Harbor, NY 11963

This morning, I set out for a long walk through Sag Harbor—something I’ve grown to love more and more with each season. The village has such a special rhythm in the summer: boats bobbing in the marina, shop doors swung open, the smell of coffee and sea breeze blending in the air. I hadn’t planned to shop or stop anywhere in particular. I just needed to stretch my legs and soak it all in. But like so many of the best things in life, something unexpected caught my eye: a familiar pink sign with gold lettering—BonBon Swedish Candy Co. was opening a location right here in Sag Harbor.

I froze on the sidewalk, heart doing a little skip. BonBon? Here? Up until now, BonBon has been a New York City treat for us—something we usually pick up during our frequent trips to the city or when friends bring back a bag from the Ludlow Street shop. Their candy is addictive in the best way: a mix of nostalgia, cheeky design, and the unbeatable quality of real Swedish confectionery. I never expected to see them pop up in our little village, and certainly not as a year-round location.

Of course I had to go inside. The space is bright, whimsical, and welcoming—just like the original. It was opening day, and you could feel the excitement. There were still a few finishing touches being added, and while the familiar little stickers identifying vegan options weren’t out yet, the team couldn’t have been more accommodating. I mentioned I was plant-based, and they jumped right in to help, guiding me through the bins, checking labels, and creating a curated vegan bag together. The whole process felt personal and joyful—exactly what you’d hope from a neighborhood candy shop.

I ended up with a great mix of my go-tos: sour strawberry fish, and those tangy berries that are a total flavor bomb. I may have also tossed in a few experimental picks I hadn’t tried before—part of the fun is the surprise, after all. Of course I got a bag of favorites for our teenager too.

When I went to pay, they handed me a gift to mark the occasion: an adorable BonBon embroidered cap in their signature pink. A small gesture, but it felt like being welcomed into something new and exciting—a reminder of how much this town embraces small joys and community-driven moments.

I walked out of the shop grinning, candy bag in one hand, pink cap in the other, and continued my walk down to the harbor. Having BonBon here feels like a perfect addition—playful, elevated, and delightfully unexpected. It bridges something I’ve always loved in the city with the calm rhythm of life out East.

It’s also a small but meaningful win for those of us with dietary restrictions. Finding vegan treats isn’t always easy, especially when you’re talking about candy, and BonBon has always gone the extra mile to be inclusive, clearly labeling everything and offering a great selection without compromising on taste or texture.

Now, instead of waiting for a city trip or ordering online, I can stroll down the street, pop in, and fill a little bag whenever the craving strikes. I can already imagine it becoming part of our weekend routines—maybe a post-beach treat or something sweet to go with a movie night at home. It's also going to be a hit with visiting friends and family, especially kids (and let’s be honest, adults too).

Today’s visit was one of those perfect summer moments: unplanned, joyful, and a little bit magical. BonBon's arrival in Sag Harbor isn’t just about candy—it’s about how small, thoughtfully made things can bring so much delight. I’m so glad they’re here.
