NYC Guide: Shiki Omakase

NYC Guide: Shiki Omakase

Shiki Omakase

Address | 71 W Houston St, New York, NY 10012

Soho is one of our favorite NYC neighborhoods so when a friend recommended Shiki Omakase for a reasonably priced, tasty, and impressive presentation of omakase, we were happy to make our way to the blooming blossom tree lined cobblestone streets of Soho to give it a try. Nestled in a sleek and intimate setting, this renowned establishment offers an unparalleled dining experience that celebrates the artistry of omakase – a traditional Japanese dining style where the chef crafts a personalized tasting menu, showcasing the freshest seasonal ingredients and expert culinary techniques. From delicate sashimi adorned with edible flowers to perfectly grilled Wagyu beef, each creation is a harmonious blend of flavors, textures, and visual aesthetics, promising to tantalize the senses and ignite the palate.

Beyond the culinary delights, Shiki Omakase also embodies the spirit of omotenashi – the Japanese concept of hospitality. Guests are warmly welcomed into a serene oasis where every detail is thoughtfully curated to ensure a memorable and immersive dining experience. Whether you're a seasoned aficionado or a newcomer eager to explore the nuances of Japanese cuisine, Shiki Omakase invites you to embark on a culinary odyssey unlike any other, where every bite tells a story and every moment is savored.

This sushi bar is a simple 12 seats around the bar set up. The intimate setting makes for a warm entry and welcome where once you’re seated you’ll be introduced to the Chefs building beautiful omakase sets. We each ordered the omakase for $65 as well as two special sets, named for the seasons spring and autumn. Many of the ingredients were sourced from Japan and put together with nice touches like caviar, gold leaf, and chili sauces. If you’re pescatarian they will substitute but I really enjoyed the Miyazaki A5 Wagyu with Uni. The beverage menu offers a nice selection of Japanese sake and teas and I recommend enjoying the omakase while sipping on sake.

Shiki Omakase is an excellent sushi dining experience in the city and I really look forward to returning with friends for another meal.
