Paris Guide: Breakfast at Café de Flore

For the day of our vow exchange, Lynette and I decided that we wanted to begin with breakfast at a classic Paris café. During her time as a visiting scholar at Sciences Po, Lynette fell in love with Saint-Germain-des-Près and Café de Flore. Once regularly frequented by great artists and thinkers such as Albert Camus (a favorite of Lynette's), Simone de Beauvoir, Satre, and Picasso, among others, the cafe embodies the cultural spirit of Paris.  Ina Garten once said that Café de Flore is a "quintessential" Parisian cafe experience. And so, we both agreed that Cafe de Flore, with its romantic intellectual history, a favorite of chefs and foodies, with its charming Art Deco interior, would be the perfect ambiance to set the tone for the day.   

I started with a double espresso and buttery croissant to share with the table.  We each ordered a classic French omlette.  I had the champignons omelette.  The egg was very thin which was nice and creamy with simple sautéed morel mushrooms.  The taste was very clean and the natural flavors of the ingredients shined.  Of course, I was invited to share Lynette's omelette végétarienne which was also very good.  

As I mentioned in a previous post, my friend has an egg allergy but fortunately there were still good options for him on the menu.  He went with a Jambon Beurre with emmenthal sandwich.  I had a couple bites and it was again classic in its simplicity and delicious.

We're all excellent at sharing! My sister-in-law ordered toast (bread from Poilâne) with goat cheese. I would recommend including this in your order when you visit.  It's a nice plate to share and after all, when in Paris, you should eat cheese. We also shared a tomato salad and fruit salad. It was the perfect morning meal.

A happy couple, we left the cafe for a little shopping and walk down Boulevard Saint Germain before preparing for our ceremony.  More on that next time!
