Vegan Tucson: Tumerico

Tumerico

Address | 2526 E 6th St, Tucson, AZ 85716

When we started planning the Irden Designs AGTA trip to Tucson, there were a lot of moving pieces—early mornings, long days on the gem show floor, and a schedule packed with appointments and sourcing. But one thing Sabrina did so thoughtfully was make sure our itinerary included truly great vegan dining, and Tumerico was at the very top of that list. If you’ve spent any time in Tucson, you’ve probably heard the name. It’s one of those places that locals rave about, travelers seek out, and plant-based eaters immediately bookmark.

Tumerico is the kind of restaurant that feels like a reward after a busy day: colorful, vibrant, and full of flavor in a way that makes vegan food feel exciting—not like an afterthought. The menu is rooted in Mexican-inspired comfort food, but everything is made with care, creativity, and bold seasoning. Even before the first bite, you can tell this is a spot that takes pride in what they do.

There’s also something especially fitting about eating at a place like Tumerico during gem show week. Tucson is buzzing with energy, artistry, and people who came from all over the world to find beautiful things—and this restaurant fits right into that spirit. It’s warm, welcoming, and packed with personality, the kind of place that makes you feel like you’re experiencing the city beyond the convention halls. For our trip, it wasn’t just a meal—it was part of the Tucson story.

Of course we couldn’t come to Tumerico and not go all in on the menu. We ordered a spread that hit every craving—bold, comforting, and the kind of food that makes you forget you’re eating plant-based because it’s simply that good.

The standout for me was the vegan al pastor tacos, made with tender jackfruit and sweet pineapple. They were spicy, tangy, and ridiculously delicious, with that perfect balance of smoky heat and bright acidity that keeps you reaching for “just one more bite.” The jackfruit had the ideal texture—shredded and juicy—so it truly felt like a satisfying al pastor-style taco, not a substitute.

We also ordered a vegetable curry made with coconut milk, and it was pure comfort. Creamy, warming, and packed with vegetables, it had that slow-building spice that makes a dish feel cozy and vibrant at the same time. It was the perfect counterpoint to the tacos—rich, soothing, and deeply flavorful.

And then came dessert, because Tumerico doesn’t let you leave without something sweet. We shared a chocolate flan that was silky, decadent, and just the right amount of indulgent. After a day of gem show energy, it was the perfect finish: a little celebratory, a little dreamy, and completely worth saving room for.
