NYC Guide: Patent Pending Speakeasy

NYC Guide: Patent Pending Speakeasy

Patent Pending

Address | The Radio Wave Building 49 W 27th St, New York, NY 10001

Located in the Radio Wave Building where Nikola Tesla lived and invented—you guessed it, radio waves—you’ll enjoy sipping cocktails at this New York City hotspot, Patent Pending. This NoMad speakeasy is located down the stairs and past the Patent Pending coffee bar, where you’ll be led through a back door and into this low lit intimate space. With exposed brick walls, half moon booths, and just a few seats around the bar, you’ll find that the crowd control is good making this is a great night spot for cocktails and conversation.

Working on Chef’s schedule, it’s imperative to have a few great locales in your back pocket for late night gatherings. Patent Pending is a speakeasy that I love introducing visitors to and it’s a nice place to grab an impromptu cocktail. Mixing a bit of the history of the genius of Nikola Tesla with innovative cocktails is an electric combination (pun intended).

In the pages of the cocktail menu, which resembles a thinker/inventors notebook, you’ll find a nice selection of whatever your pleasure. From citrus and spice to sweet and tropical, Patent Pending offers it all. Keeping on theme, the cocktails reflect the spirit of Nikola Tesla with names like Light Me Up and Currents and Coils. I’ve enjoyed every cocktail I’ve been served here so it’s a matter of taste and I don’t think you can go wrong with your order.

Top Right: Radio Waves {tequila, mezcal, arigole rhum, basil, thai chile, lime, cucumber} + Light me up {bourbon, Jamaican rum, mango black tea, amaro, yellow chartreuse, szechuan peppercorn, lime, pineapple}

Bottom Left: Currents and Coils {Venezuelan & Guyanese rum, malted milk, coconut, banana, patent coffee, pineapple, lime} + Strange Magic {vodka, strawberry, madeira, grapefruit, lemon, prosecco, seltzer}
