Vegan Bites: Grass Roots Kitchen

Grass Roots Kitchen

Address | 124 Wildey St, Tarrytown, NY 10591

We started the second day of our drive from Toronto toward the Hamptons with a slower, more relaxed morning, taking our time before hitting the road again. After a long first leg of travel the day before, it felt good to ease into the journey, watching the landscape gradually shift as we crossed into New York State. The rhythm of the drive was steady and scenic, giving us space to reset and enjoy the open road.

By the time we reached the historic river towns of Sleepy Hollow and Tarrytown in the late afternoon, we were ready for a break. The Hudson River views, tree-lined streets, and quiet charm of the area made it the perfect place to pause. We were looking forward to a proper lunch and a much-needed stretch after hours in the car, taking in the calm atmosphere before continuing the final stretch of our journey toward the Hamptons. It felt like a natural midpoint—restful, scenic, and exactly what we needed to recharge before getting back on the road.

Grass Roots Kitchen: Falafel Burger

The falafel burger at Grass Roots Kitchen was a satisfying and flavorful vegan option that hit all the right notes. The chickpea-based patty, packed with parsley, cilantro, and cumin, had a perfect balance of crisp exterior and tender interior. Layered with crunchy pickles, fresh lettuce, and sharp red onion, each bite offered great texture and brightness. The vegan yogurt dill sauce added a cool, tangy finish that tied everything together beautifully, making it a wholesome and delicious choice.

Grass Roots Kitchen: French Fries

Of course, we couldn’t resist ordering a side of fries to share at Grass Roots Kitchen. Golden, crispy, and perfectly salted, they were the ideal companion to our meal. Each bite delivered that satisfying crunch on the outside with a fluffy interior, making them completely irresistible. Simple yet done right, the fries were a comforting addition that rounded out our lunch and made sharing all the more enjoyable.

Grass Roots Kitchen: Vegan BBQ “Chicken” Bowl

The Vegan BBQ “Chicken” Bowl at Grass Roots Kitchen was hearty, satisfying, and full of bold flavor. The BBQ soy curls were smoky and tender, offering a convincing plant-based twist on classic comfort food. Served over a nourishing grain base with fresh kale, creamy avocado added richness and balance. The combination of basil aioli and buffalo hot sauce on the side allowed for layering flavors—cool, herby, and spicy in every bite. It was a well-composed bowl that felt both indulgent and wholesome, perfect for a filling vegan meal.

Grass Roots Kitchen: Juice Bar

The juice bar at Grass Roots Kitchen was truly the highlight of the experience and felt like the real star of the meal. We tried the “Can You Dig It?” pressed juice, a vibrant blend of beet, carrot, lemon, and ginger that was earthy, bright, and perfectly invigorating. Alongside it, the “Don’t Kale Me” juice delivered a crisp and refreshing mix of kale, apple, celery, cucumber, and lime, balancing green freshness with a gentle sweetness. Both juices tasted incredibly clean and thoughtfully crafted, offering a nourishing boost that elevated the entire visit and made the juice bar unforgettable.
