A Taste of Brittany in the Heart of Paris: Breizh Café

Breizh Café

Paris, the City of Light, is renowned for its culinary excellence, boasting a rich tapestry of flavors from around the world. Yet amidst the bustling café culture and Michelin-starred restaurants, there's a charming corner of Paris that offers a taste of Brittany – it's called Breizh Café. This unique café has been enchanting Parisians and visitors alike with its delectable Breton cuisine and warm ambiance. Coming off a red eye flight from JFK into Paris, we decided to begin our gastronomic journey on this year’s European adventure, exploring the delights of Breizh Café in Paris.

Breizh Café: A Breton Love Story

Breizh Café is the brainchild of Bertrand Larcher, a Breton native with a passion for his region's culinary traditions. His love for Brittany's gastronomic heritage led him to create a space in Paris where he could share the flavors of his homeland. Since its inception in 2008, Breizh Café has been committed to offering an authentic Breton experience mixed—to my delightful surprise—with Japanese influence. The combination is a fresh, high-quality ingredient, twist on traditional recipes.

Breizh Café: The Gastronomic Gem

Breizh Café's menu is a celebration of the gastronomic treasures of Brittany. At the heart of their offerings are their famous crêpes and galettes. Crêpes are delicate, sweet creations, while galettes are savory buckwheat pancakes, both prepared to perfection. With a range of fillings that include yuzu, local cheeses, fresh seafood, and seasonal vegetables, there's a galette or crêpe for every palate.

Breizh Café: What we ordered

  1. My son ordered a classic, La Complète: A classic Breton galette, La Complète is made with ham, Emmental cheese, and a perfectly runny egg. While a couple of bites was nice, eating this galette on your own is no small feat with generous amounts of cheese and butter smothering the galette.

  2. I went straight for the Saumon fumé biologique artisanal, chèvre frais, crème ciboulette, salade verte. Basically, this was a dreamy elevated version of an everything bagel with smoked salmon. We all agreed, it was our favorite galette of the meal.

  3. My wife ordered a seasonal special of smoked salmon with kale, seaweed, and yuzu ginger sauce. It was tasty and unique combination of ingredients that worked well.

Originally we planned to order flambé dessert crepes and galettes but we had already made a substantial round around Paris for croissant, pain au chocolate, cakes, macarons and all the sweet delights of Parisian bakeries. Next time we will have to try!

Breizh Café in Paris offers a delightful escape from the city's hustle and bustle, allowing you to savor the authentic flavors of Brittany in the heart of the French capital. Whether you're a crêpe connoisseur, a cider enthusiast, or simply seeking a taste of regional French cuisine, this charming café is a must-visit destination. Bertrand Larcher's dedication to preserving and sharing his Breton heritage through food has made Breizh Café a culinary gem, and it's a testament to the power of passion and tradition in the world of gastronomy. So, the next time you find yourself in Paris, be sure to visit Breizh Café for an unforgettable Breton dining experience.
